| 摘要 | Terpenoids are the most diverse type of plant secondary metabolites and play important roles in plant survival and human life. However, their content in plants is usually very limited, which significantly diminishes their applications. Therefore, increasing the terpenoid content in plants is urgently needed. Transcription factors can simultaneously regulate the expression of multiple enzymes in the terpenoid biosynthesis pathway by binding to cis-elements in their promoters, which are effective tools to improve the yields of terpenoids. In this review, we first introduce the classification and biosynthetic pathways of terpenoids. We then present various transcription factors and update their roles in coordinating terpenoid biosynthesis. Finally, we discuss potential applications in plant synthetic biology to provide references for boosting the yields of terpenoids to meet market demand. |
